Human Resources - Management Training Academy (MTA)
Description
FNPSS' Management Training Academies (MTA) aim to help participants return to their organizations with capacity-enhancing strategies they can implement immediately. During the Human Resources MTA, participants will build an understanding of strategic HR planning which reinforces the current and future direction of their organization. Participants will also learn about recruitment and selection, plan monitoring, managing relationships, performance management, evaluation and more. There will be an opportunity to engage in discussion on various HR topics and issues.
Who Should Attend?
BC First Nations: Band Administrators, HR Managers, or other Management Staff, as well as First Nations youth who are interested in working in the areas of administration and human resources. Please note, as this the first in-person MTA since 2019, spaces are expected to fill up quickly!

Location and Cost
This event will be in-person in Vancouver, BC, at the Coast Coal Harbour, Vancouver BC.
The cost for the entire workshop series (2-days) is $200, and includes breakfast and lunch on the two days of the workshop.
Please note, this does not include the cost of travel and accommodation. This cost will be the responsibility of the participant and/or their employer. There is, however, the opportunity to book a room under FNPSS' room block at the Coast Coal Harbour, at the rate of $169 per room per night. After registration, an FNPSS staff member will reach out to you about how to book using the room block.
Objectives:
- Provide information on successful strategic human resources planning
- Discuss human resources and common issues from a Band office perspective
- Explore the relationship between planning, recruitment and selection
- Work on group exercises discussing what questions are legal
- Discuss the impacts of mental health
- Discuss key components to effective relationship building
- Explore accountability, coaching and performance management
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop the participants understanding of the steps and benefits in strategic HR planning
- Understand the relationship between planning, recruitment and selection
- Analyze and discuss what questions are legal in a work environment
- Explore the impacts of mental health in the workplace
- Identify personality types and explore organizational culture and emotional intelligence in relation to relationship building
- Develop skills in performance management
- Plus, Q&A sessions with representatives from an Employment Law Firm, the Canada Labour Program and the BC Employment Standards Branch
