Records and Information Management Training Academy

Description

FNPSS' Management Training Academies (MTA) aim to help participants return to their organizations with capacity-enhancing strategies they can implement immediately. During the Records and Information Management (RIM) MTA, participants will learn about records classification, retention schedules, RIM legislation, file management systems and more! There will be an opportunity to engage in discussion on various RIM topics and issues.

Who Should Attend?

BC First Nations: Band Administrators, Records and Information Managers or other Management Staff, as well as First Nations youth who are interested in working in the areas of administration and records and information management.

*If you are a First Nations youth or participant in the Indigenous Intern Leadership Program who is interested in attending, please reach out to info@fnps.ca for more information and support in attending.

Objectives:

  • Provide information on basic elements of a RIM program
  • Explore different types of records
  • Provide an understanding of the importance of RIM legislation, policy and procedures
  • Discuss records classification and retention schedules
  • Work on filing and classifying records
  • Evaluate various file management systems
  • Understand the basics of developing a RIM manual

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Summarize the importance of a healthy RIM program
  • Understand the basic fundamentals of a RIM program
  • Discover key pieces of RIM legislation which affect your organization's RIM program
  • Develop retention schedules and classification skills
  • Understand the pros and cons of various file management systems
  • Adapt staffing and budget needs to modify and/or develop your organization's RIM program
  • Develop or modify an existing RIM manual
