Description

FNPSS' Management Training Academies (MTA) aim to help participants return to their organizations with capacity-enhancing strategies they can implement immediately. During the Policy Development MTA, participants will build an understanding of the purpose and objectives of policy, how to effectively create policy and will engage in discussion on practical and everyday examples of policy work.

Who Should Attend?

BC First Nations: Band Administrators, HR Managers, or other Management Staff, as well as First Nations youth who are interested in working in the areas of administration and policy development.

Objectives:

  • Provide information on the policy development process;
  • Discuss policy development from a Band office perspective;
  • Explore criteria for success;
  • Work on sample policies from participants’ communities/Bands/Nations;
  • Explore leadership at all levels for effective policy creation and implementation; and,
  • Consider risk analysis and change management. 

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Create an ongoing policy development process;
  • Understand the skills required for creating and implementing policy;
  • Explore how to anticipate risks related to the policy and use analysis to create mitigative actions;
  • Look at the development of new and revised policies from a change management lens;
  • Compile and use effective communication to explain policies;
  • Consider ways to maintain an effective policy cycle;
  • Monitor the policy development checklist to stay on track; and,
  • Understand the relationship between policy and a Community’s Strategic Plan -  Mission & Vision.

I give my consent and understand video, audio, and collateral presentation materials may be captured and recorded for purposes consistent with The First Nations Public Secretariat's (FNPSS) mission, research and service, and may be streamed live and/or recorded and broadcast via the internet, or through any other communications medium currently existing or later created.

I also give my consent and understand that photos and video footage will be taken throughout the event and my image may be used in any current or future publications, or for other purposes consistent with the organizers' mission.

*By registering you are giving your consent; you will have the option of keeping your video off during the event should you not want your image captured and used by the organizers.
